Sunrise Thrills and Temple Wonders
Jeep Ride at Mount Merapi
Prepare for an early start — but it’s worth it. You’ll hop in a 4WD for a jeep adventure across the rugged slopes of Mount Merapi, arriving just in time to watch the sun rise over a surreal volcanic landscape. This thrilling, bumpy ride combines natural beauty with a touch of adrenaline and ends with panoramic views of Java’s countryside.
Later in the day, you’ll explore two of the region’s most celebrated temples:
Prambanan Temple
a magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia, renowned for its towering spires and intricately carved reliefs depicting tales from the Ramayana. It’s a testament to the rich Hindu-Javanese cultural legacy of the 9th century.
Ijo Temple (Candi Ijo)
Perched on a quiet hilltop about 410 meters above sea level, Ijo Temple offers not only historical interest but some of the most spectacular panoramic views in the region. Built between the 9th and 10th centuries, this small but graceful Hindu complex consists of a main temple and several smaller structures, surrounded by serene green terraces.
Ramayana Ballet
As night falls, you’ll return to Prambanan for a special cultural highlight — the Ramayana Ballet. The Ramayana Ballet is a captivating performance that brings the epic Ramayana story to life through traditional dance, music, and stunning costumes, often performed under the starlit backdrop of illuminated Prambanan Temple. It’s an unforgettable cultural experience blending art and legend.
Day 4
Royal Encounters and a slice of Local Life
Keraton - Sultan Palace
The Keraton is the royal palace of Yogyakarta's Sultan, a living museum that showcases Javanese culture, history, and traditions through its stunning architecture and cultural performances. It remains an active residence of the Sultan and a center for preserving Javanese heritage.
Meet the Abdi Dalam Experience
What sets Carita Nara Tours apart is something truly special: an exclusive audience with the Abdi Dalem, the palace’s loyal caretakers. These dedicated men and women have served the royal family for generations, guided by deep values of humility, loyalty, and devotion.
Carita Nara takes you away from the usual visitor route, into a glimpse of a day in the Abdi Dalem's life. You'll hear their personal stories — of waking before dawn to perform rituals, of preserving Javanese etiquette and court ceremonies, and of what it truly means to serve without question. There’s wisdom, dignity, and a quiet poetry in their words that often leaves guests deeply moved.
Taman Sari Water Palace
After this intimate encounter, your royal journey continues to the nearby Taman Sari Water Castle. Once a royal garden and bathing complex for the Sultan and his family, Taman Sari is a serene retreat with enchanting pools, underground passages, and lush gardens. Wander through its moss-covered walls and sun-dappled courtyards, imagining life as it once was.
Trishaw Ride
Spend the rest of the afternoon, on a Becak (traditional pedicab) for a leisurely ride around the old town. The pace is slow, the air warm, and the sounds of street life all around — it’s a chance to take in the textures of Yogyakarta’s daily life, from corner food stalls to old batik shops tucked behind alleys.
If time allows, finish your day with a stroll along Malioboro Street, picking up a few handcrafted keepsakes before you say your goodbyes.
Day 5
Until Next Time
After breakfast, take time to reflect on your journey before your departure. This isn't just a trip filled with sights — it’s a collection of moments, flavors, and stories you’ll carry with you. Yogyakarta leaves its mark softly, but deeply.
