Brief History
Bali’s history is deeply rooted in ancient kingdoms, art, and spirituality. Early records trace back to the 9th century, with the island influenced by both Hindu-Buddhist empires like Majapahit and earlier native Balinese dynasties. When the Majapahit Kingdom in Java fell in the 15th century, many nobles, artists, and priests fled to Bali, bringing with them a rich cultural heritage that shaped the island’s identity.
Unlike much of Indonesia, Bali remained predominantly Hindu, preserving unique religious and artistic traditions through centuries of change. During Dutch colonization in the early 1900s, Bali became known worldwide for its beauty and culture, though it also experienced colonial conflicts and upheavals.
Today, Bali is known as the Island of the Gods, famous for its temples, rituals, and vibrant arts scene, making it one of the world’s most beloved travel destinations.
